humans of new york

when daniel and i were dating long distance, he would always mail me the latest new york mag before i got on a flight to come see him.  just so i would know what was going on.  {and usually there was also a bag of pretzel m&ms in the package, too.  just in case i needed a snack on the plane.  sweet little thoughtful muffin d.}  that's when i fell in love with this magazine and i plan on having a subscription until the end of time.

i peruse their website almost daily and find many gems like this from today.  isn't it just so cool? new york has slowly but surely weaseled its way into my heart and looking at all these photos makes a huge smile come over my face.  i try to explain this city to people and it's hard because there is no form of reference.  but this site helps to describe what words really can't.  these people...  all from the least expected places, creating lives in this one place, all crammed in here together, living, breathing, walking, commuting, eating, yelling, rollerblading... together.  i feel like i pass each one of his photos every single day - all of them - every day.  it's sensory overload for sure, but my days here are also so full of LIFE in every sense of the word, in a way i have never experienced or knew existed.  watch the video below for the background info.  and don't you worry that i'm making it my personal mission to show up on HONY in the very near future.

what we've been up to nyc style

i might be the last to board this boat, but do you all check in with the rockstar diaries?  i was introduced to this picture-perfect family today and have been mesmerized for some odd reason.  probably has something to do with the fact that they are all can't-be-for-real gorgeous and take pretty pictures and wear very chic clothes.  i looked back to the start of the blog (shameful / obsessive) and loooooved seeing what kind of date nights she and her husband went on when they lived in new york and how magical and dreamy it all looked.  which made me think - why don't i post about stuff d and i do in new york??!!  so here we go.

fun thing we did that i'd like to post about #1: on saturday we went with our friends sara and rusty to rockaway beach.  the water was 1 degree and there were so many people, you might think it was the last beach on earth.  we set up shop and roasted for a few hours and then headed to rockaway taco, which has a massive cult following and is the main reason we go to this beach, as opposed to one in jersey, long island, what have you.  the fish tacos are just a little slice of heaven on earth... worth the 30 minute wait in the blazing sun.

fun-ish thing we did that i'd like to post about #2: pizza-making & wine-tasting class at brick nyc.  daniel's team at work got him a groupon for he and i to go to this class for his birthday and we have been so excited to use it.  i wiiiiish i could tell you it was just like that cooking school scene in hitch... big warehouse right on the hudson with professional chefs showing us how to knead dough and pair wines with your favorite toppings.  think opposite.  think tiny table crammed with 8 people and the wet blanket running the show wouldn't even split an entire bottle of wine with the whole group.  when they meant wine tasting, they meant it.  and d's pizza didn't come out until everyone else was through eating theirs!  chalking it up to an experience and moving onnnnnnnn.

the last thing i'd like to share is that i got yelled at by a man on my subway train yesterday because i didn't watch him play the drums during our 3 minute commute together.  that's what you have got to love (?) about this place.  you leave work, minding your own business, just trying to get home and into air conditioning.  you innocently step onto a train in which a band of three men start to bongo on their own free will, and then you get accosted for being someone who "ignores performances" because shouldn't anyone want to give their right arm to be serenaded tribal style on a whim?!

anyhooooo... i will be posting about our 4th of july shenanigans!  our 5-day vacay starts in about dos ahoras and this new york wifey is gettin real, real excited.

on repeat

have you guys heard of audrey?  she sang a song with chris tomlin on his christmas album a few years ago and i've been obsessed with her ever since.  and now i simply cannot stop listening to "the way you move" off her record heart!  was just emailing abby this, and feel i can repeat it and have it not be weird, but it's just a jazzy love song to Jesus and you don't really come across one of those too often.  all of heart is amazing, btw.

allow me to also use this opportunity to plug SPOTIFY.  not only is it my place of employment, but it is also my absolute favorite thing ever.  any song - free.  you just sign up.  i haven't spent a dime on itunes in months and i gotta say, it feels good.  if i were going to be shipped to a deserted island and could only take one thing, i would take daniel, my computer and an internet connection so i could listen to spotify.  i could go on {and on and on and on} but i'll stop there.  just know if you WANT more pros on how amazing this product is, shoot me an email and i would be happy to expound.  i still love ranting about the evils of diet drinks, but right after that, it's my spotify rant that can reeeeeally get my passion juices flowing.

all my pride, you know it doesn't stand a chance against the way you move... you're tearing up roots and breaking down walls... i don't stand a chance at all... against the way you move.

just a 'lil something

i was talking with a group of girls the other day about our favorite blogs.  {how does it ALWAYS come back to blogs?!} and one girl rattled off a bunch that she doesn't read anymore because the writers have had babies and all they talk about is baby stuff now and she's bored.  this is NOT true of me, as i love all things baby, but i sure hope all you tens of readers of my blog don't stop reading because i only put things about marriage up on this thing now that i'm married to my muffin.

i use that disclaimer above because i am now going to post an article about marriage.

although i do not agree with only staying married 15 years and i'm iffy on some of the motivations, i do really like this list.  it's funny because if i would have read this two months ago {pre-wifey days} i would have thought "um, duh" to all of these things.  now that i'm in it, i'm just now starting to scratch the surface of this beast and realize more and more that i have no idea what i'm doing.  so this article helps immensely.  hope you like it, too.

missing dg

isn't this just the cutest thing?  found it on etsy.  then emailed it to my new husband who is on his first work trip away from his wife this week.  just a friendly reminder to love me even whilst in vegas!

TGIGF

i spent three hours at the new york city DMV today.  came home and had to have a moment to erase the afternoon from my memory... then pulled out my valley of vision.  our good friday service is tonight and in readying my heart for reflection upon what this day actually means in history, and more specifically to me personally, i found this prayer and wanted to share it with you all.

calvary's anthem

heavenly father,
thou hast led me singing to the cross
where i fling down all my burdens and see them vanish,
where my mountains of guilt are levelled to a plain,
where my sins disappear, though they are the greatest that exist,
and are more in number than the grains of fine sand;

for there is power in the blood of Calvary
to destroy sins more than can be counted
even by one from the choir of heaven.
thou hast given me a hill-side spring
that washed clear and white,
and i go as a sinner to its waters,
bathing without hindrance in its crystal streams.

at the cross there is free forgiveness for poor and meek ones,
and ample blessings that last for ever;
the blood of the lamb is like a great river of infinite grace
with never any diminishing of its fullness
as thirsty ones without number drink of it.

o lord, for ever will thy free forgiveness live
that was gained on the mount of blood;
in the midst of a world of pain it is a subject for praise in every place,
a song on earth, an anthem in heaven,
its love and virtue knowing no end.
i have a longing for the world above
where multitudes sing the great song,
for my soul was never created to love the dust of the earth.
though here my spiritual state is frail and poor,
i shall go on singing calvary's anthem.
may i always know
that a clean heart full of goodness is more beautiful than the lily,
that only a clean heart can sing by night and by day,
that such a heart is mine when i abide at calvary.

{may the truth of easter resonate with each of us and drastically change everything.}

#sGd

well it's friday afternoon in new york city and i can assure you i'm counting down the seconds to quitting time.  first week back from our honeymoon and we're settling into domestication by meeting up to run after work, making dinner at home and enjoying a night IN - can you believe it?

oprah came and visited me at my bachelorette party and brought me her april issue of O and i found some pretty delightful recipes.  going to be making these tonight in an effort to make both my hubby happy and get some vegetables down us.  will report back on how they were.

i seem to be posting and emailing this to anyone/thing that will stand still, so i clearly couldn't leave my blog out!  in a last minute decision (literally a week before the wedding) daniel and i decided our wedding gift to each other would be to hire a videographer to do a "highlight"video of the day for us.  it'll be going down as one of the best things we've ever done.  when people ask me about the wedding and what happened and how did it feel, i'm still at a loss for words.  so this video helps articulate the love and joy and appreciation i felt/feel as i continue to process and savor every single second.  so without further adieu, here it is!  happy weekend!

(ps: if you or anyone you know is getting married or would be interested in something like this, you MUST get in touch with sean greenberg!  he could not have been greater and i could not recommend him more!)
